Food insecurity is a persistent issue in Buhoma, Uganda, which is the location of the orphanage we support. While this is an area frequented by tourists for mountain gorilla trekking, the local communities face significant economic and nutritional vulnerabilities.
By donating the cost of a daily cup of coffee, a child at Bwindi Children Empowerment Charity can enjoy the security of knowing they will have nutritious daily meals. And that is critical to our mission of giving these vulnerable children a fair start in life.

Shower Bwindi with Love
Help us build showers for more than 80 children in Bwindi, Uganda.
Fair Start Uganda supports orphaned and vulnerable children at Bwindi Children Empowerment Charity (BCEC) in Buhoma, a village on the edge of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. As the number of children in BCEC’s care has grown, so has the need for proper washing facilities.
We’re raising funds for a sturdy brick washroom building with separate sides for boys and girls. Each side has its own private entrance, two showers, and a laundry area for washing clothing and bedding.
The design has been approved by the Kanungu District Physical Planner. Construction will be led by the same local engineer who built the BCEC latrines our donors funded, and her work there was excellent. You can see the approved washroom plans on the Impact page of our website. (The finished latrines are there as well.)
$15,850 will cover construction, international transfer costs, and a small contingency for exchange-rate and material-price swings. Once funded, the project will take 4–6 weeks. Thank you for helping to build showers and washrooms that will serve children in need for years to come!
